Next steps – Thematic Frameworks – Final presentation

After yesterday’s brainstorming/first impression presentation many interesting issues were raised that will need to continue to be developed and explored.

The work within the winter school continues to proceed and, as suggested by Mattero Robiglio (PoliTo-FULL), Francesca Frassoldati (PoliTo-FULL) and Eran Ben-Joseph (MIT-DUSP), each group will have to focus on one theme/concept and explore it further in the next few days. Presented together they will provide a more comprehensive approach for the site and the city as a whole.

Suggested Process

_ The concepts should be mainly guided and based on the theme that has been “assigned” and the previous work of each group.

_It should also incorporate and take into account other aspects of the site, including other unassigned themes (e.g. focusing on production as a driver).

_The “themes” suggested for each group can be refined and redefined while making sure that:

  • Your theme must relate and address issues of our site (neighbourhood scale) but also consider the context of the City
  • That the overall framework / programmatic direction given by our client is focused on manufacturing and industry as a driving force for economic development, and
  • That your propositions take into account (beyond economics) the large social/cultural issues of the city as well as policy implications.
  • Understanding that some of the students are interested in looking into issues that may not be the focus of their specific theme they can feel free to work with others who may have similar interests and create their own ad-hoc groups. This will help inform the overall approach and will help the work back at MIT.
